Each year, students in grades three through eight and grade 11 take state tests in English language arts and math. Students in grades five, eight and in high school also take a state science test. The tests measure students’ knowledge of state standards and give the state information about how schools are performing. Information from the Oregon Department of Education regarding the annual tests and parents’ right to opt students out of some state testing is available online.
