Yondr Cell Phone Pouch Information

Students at CCMS will begin using cell phone pouches during the 25-26 school year.

As we continue to work towards creating a safe, welcoming, and focused learning environment for our students - and the best possible conditions for staff to support students - this takes partnership and action between all students, staff, and families.

In order for students to be successful in school, it is important to work together to create the routines, systems and expectations that have been proven to support student achievement. This includes students being at school each and every day, being focused and engaged – both academically and socially – while at school and receiving the right instruction to further their academic goals.

We believe when we all work together to find focus, we enhance student learning, improve academic outcomes, support social-emotional health and well-being and build a strong sense of community.

Yondr Cell Phone Pouches

In helping students find their focus, our school - along with high schools in our district and some other Salem-Keizer middle schools - will be implementing the use of Yondr cell phone pouches. These pouches allow for technology-free spaces where students are able to connect with staff, their peers, and the learning opportunities around them. In addition, this change further aligns us with Oregon Governor Kotek’s recent executive order prohibiting the use of personal electronic devices by students during the school day.

The reduction of cell phone use in schools not only provides great benefits for the academic focus and excellence of our students, but also helps students practice self-accountability and professional skills as they prepare to head into the workforce.

Training, Distribution, and Implementation

  • We will begin with student education about Yondr pouches at the beginning of the 25-26 school year, and will follow with pouch distribution and implementation in mid-September.
  • Families will have the opportunity to join us for an engagement opportunity on the implementation of Yondr pouches during our Back-2-School Night Title I Open House on Thursday, September 11th. Additional information about this event will be shared on our school website and ParentSquare posts.

Thank you for your partnership in making this a positive addition to our school and helping us have a successful start to our 25-26 school year! Although we are still working through our operational plans for implementation, please know, keeping you informed about this change is of high priority for us. We will share additional information throughout the month of August, as well as provide opportunities for you to ask any questions you may have.
